SUCCESS STORY

Stroke Patient Saved by the Right Decision at the Right Time

A 48-year-old woman was brought to the Emergency Department of Mimi Hospital by her attendants. The emergency team observed weakness on the right side of her body, inability to lift her right limbs, difficulty speaking, and noticeable facial deviation.

The on-duty Emergency Physician suspected a brain stroke and immediately advised an MRI of the brain. The MRI confirmed an acute stroke caused by a blood clot blocking a blood vessel supplying the brain.

The Stroke Neurology Team, led by Dr. Khandker Mahbubar Rahman (Senior Consultant – Neurology) was activated without delay. Since the stroke occurred within the critical 4.5-hour window, a clot-busting medicine, rtPA (recombinant tissue plasminogen activator), was administered through IV infusion over one hour in the Emergency Department.

After completing the therapy, the patient was moved to the Critical Care Unit for observation under the neurology team.

The next morning brought a remarkable result—the patient was completely normal. She had no significant weakness, no speech difficulty, and her facial deviation had improved. She was transferred to the step-down unit after 24 hours and later moved to a cabin for observation. On the 3rd day, she was discharged as a fully recovered person with no remaining deficits.

One major challenge with thrombolysis is that it must be started within the first 4.5 hours of symptom onset. Unfortunately, many people fail to recognize the early warning signs of a stroke, and delaying treatment often makes recovery difficult or impossible. To ensure full recovery, a suspected stroke patient must reach the emergency department within 1 to 3 hours.

Mimi Hospital, with its commitment to providing modern and advanced healthcare services, continues its journey as a dedicated stroke care center—saving lives through timely treatment and expert neurological care.

NEURO REHABILITATION

Neuro-rehabilitation services are provided through the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Centre. The rehabilitation program includes occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech therapy—designed to support the recovery of patients suffering from neurological injuries or illnesses.

The aim is to restore function, reduce disability, and help patients regain independence by minimizing or compensating for any functional impairments.

Patients receive specialized outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services through our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Centre, where comprehensive care of the highest quality is ensured.
